STRUCTURED CABLING
This is the foundation for your "connected" or "smart" home. Structured
cabling allows you to easily add all types of services and applications
without requiring recabling. It refers to all of the wires and cable
behind and through the walls, ceilings and floors of your home.
Often called “digital plumbing”, these cables are connected
between the multimedia outlets in your house to various modules
or interfaces (audio, video, telephone, data, etc.) within a structured
wiring enclosure (The structured wiring enclosure goes by many names
including media center, distribution center, multi-media system,
etc. All these terms refer to the same device, which is pictured
on this page). This enclosure, usually installed in the basement
or in a closet, is the central hub through which the distribution
of your residential systems is accomplished.
Other important components include the wires and cable that run from the enclosure
to the multimedia outlets in the various locations throughout the house.
In the future, if you ever decide to sell your home, you'll
find that the initial investment in structured wiring also protects your
home from becoming technologically obsolete - safeguarding your investment
and maximizing your home's resale value.
Structured wiring solutions work well in all residential environments of all
types, and there is no minimum or maximum size square footage required for
structured wiring.
